Why Is It The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year? - Gift Meaningfully

Having difficulty thinking of what gifts to buy for everybody? We've looked at the most popular reasons people love Christmas and offer some gift ideas to help make your Christmas shopping a little bit easier.

Yes, Christmas time, it’s here again. The time to do Christmas shopping, eat copious quantities of foods reserved only for Christmas time and visit family members you haven’t seen in ages.

But, if you ask someone why Christmas is the most wonderful time of the year, you are bound to get a wide assortment of different ideas. There’s always something that each person likes the most about this time of the year. We’ve come up with a list of some of the most loved things about Christmas.

  1. Presents

Seeing presents under the Christmas tree, shaking them to try and guess what’s in them and, of course, opening them to see what you (and everyone else) got!

  1. Christmas shopping

This might be more of a love hate thing. Some people love shopping, seeing all the goodies they could get for each person on their Christmas gift list, imagining how the recipient will look as they open their carefully thought out gift. Others dread this part of Christmas, having to think of what each person wants and fitting it into their budget.

  1. Food

In the run up to Christmas, all the Christmas themed foods come out. At what other time of the year does the supermarket stock mince meat pies, mulled wine and all those boxes of tempting assorted appetisers? And then, of course, there’s Christmas dinner, where you get to eat even more of it and then some.

  1. Baking

For some, the joy of making all the Christmas themed foods is even more fun than eating them. This is the most appropriate time of year to bake batch after batch of gingerbread men and biscuits, then spend ages icing them and coating them in sprinkles.

  1. Family

All the family, however far they are scattered about the country, or world, are most likely to come together for Christmas. Isn’t it nice to catch up, have a nice meal together then play charades, monopoly or [other random family game that you would not normally play at any other time of the year] with your loved ones?

  1. Ugly Christmas Jumpers

This can turn into quite the competition. Who can find and pick out the ugliest, funniest, oddest or most inappropriate jumper (or shirt 😉) to wear on Christmas. Bonus points for matching ugly jumpers.

  1. Decorating

This usually starts with putting up the Christmas tree. Usually earlier than 12 days before Christmas. You’re doing it for the children, they’re so excited, so you have to put it up on the first day of December. Then come all the rest of the decorations around the house, plus all the Christmas lights outside the house and in the front garden, to help bring that festive feel to the whole neighbourhood.

  1. Snow

Even if you live somewhere with mild winters, you hope for snow. Here in the UK, a white Christmas is more of a lovely idea than a plausible expectation. The person who loves doing all the decorating can put fake frost on the windows and we can gaze into a snow globe instead.

When you settle down in front of the heating / fireplace and take off your awesomely ugly Christmas jumper, we welcome you to surprise everybody with a brand new Christmas shirt as you sip your nice warm mug of hot chocolate from your new Christmas mug!
