Do your folded shirts always turn out a bit wonky? Would you like to be able to fold your shirts faster? Or perhaps you want the kids to be able to have fun helping to fold the laundry with you.
What you need is a shirt folding board! This handy device is so easy to make, you probaby have everything you need to make it right now, sitting around somewhere in your home.
It takes a few minutes to make, and is well worth it. The time it will save you in shirt folding is enormous!
Here's what you will need:
- Corrugated cardboard box(es) - you need enough card to make 6 25x30cm rectangles*. If you don't have a suitable cutting surface you may like to use another disposable box to lay across your floor, to protect it.
- A pencil or pen - for marking out your rectangles.
- A ruler - to ensure your lines and cuts are straight.
- A craft knife - for cutting out the rectangles.
- Tape - cloth tape gives a strong hold, but any sticky tape will do.
Here's a quick video which shows how to make, assemble and use the shirt folder:
Did you like the look of our shirt at the end? ;)
Let's begin!
- Disassemble your old cardboard box(es) and lay them out flat.
- Using your pencil and ruler, mark out your rectangles.
- Using your knife and ruler, cut out the rectangles (don't forget to protect the floor with extra cardboard, if necessary).
- Lay the 6 cardboard pieces out so that there are 2 rows of 3 rectangles (each in portrait orientation) in front of you.
- Leaving a gap of up to 5mm between each piece of card, cut 3 pieces of tape to join each of the upper pieces of cardboard to the lower ones. Then cut 2 pieces of tape to join the top left and top right pieces to the top middle piece.
- Your shirt folding board is finished! You can now start folding a shirt.
Fold your first shirt!
- Lay your shirt on the board, face down, with the top of the collar lined up with the middle of the top centre piece of cardboard.
- Fold the left side in towards the centre.
- Fold the right side in towards the centre.
- At this point, if your shirt is so long that the bottom of it comes off the edge of the folding board, fold the end of the shirt in.
- Lift up the bottom middle rectangle. Your shirt is folded! turn it over to admire your perfectly folded shirt!
Happy shirt folding!
